Mt. Norikura Snow Resort, Ski resort in Matsumoto, Japan

Mt. Norikura is a ski resort near Matsumoto with slopes situated at elevations between 1,500 and 2,000 meters (4,920 and 6,560 feet). The area has multiple runs and mechanical lifts serving skiers of different skill levels across the mountainside.

The mountain was named for its distinctive saddle-shaped peak and is geographically recognized as Japan's third highest volcanic mountain at 3,026 meters (9,928 feet). This status has made it a notable landmark in the region's ski and outdoor history.

The mountain holds deep meaning for local communities as a sacred natural feature in Japanese tradition. Visitors can sense this connection through the way people interact with the slopes and surrounding areas.

The area is best accessed by preparing for weather conditions and planning visits during the main winter months when facilities are fully operational. A free shuttle service connects the resort to nearby areas on weekends and holidays to help visitors reach the slopes.

The northeast-facing orientation of the slopes helps preserve snow quality throughout the season, which keeps conditions stable for longer periods. This natural advantage allows the resort to maintain skiable terrain even as temperatures warm during spring.
