Pacific SOGO Department Store, Department store in Eastern District, Taipei, Taiwan
Pacific SOGO is an 11-floor department store located on Zhongxiao East Road with international luxury brands, local boutiques, cosmetics counters, and multiple dining options. The building houses these different retailers and restaurants across its many levels, creating a complete shopping and dining destination.
The store was created through a partnership between Taiwan's Pacific Construction and Japan's Sogo in 1986, with the first location opening in Taipei in 1987. This joint venture introduced Japanese retail methods and standards to the local market.
The store reflects a blend of Japanese retail design with Taiwanese shopping culture, where you find both international luxury brands and local favorites on display. This mix shapes how people move through the space and what they expect to discover here.
The store sits directly above Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station, connecting to both the Bannan and Wenhu subway lines for convenient access. This underground connection means you can reach the shopping floors without walking outside in bad weather.
The direct connection to the subway station below creates an unusual relationship where shopping and transit flow together as a single experience. This means the store attracts constant foot traffic from commuters passing through rather than just dedicated shoppers.
