The Country Club, Golf course in Brookline, Massachusetts, United States

The Country Club is a private golf course in Brookline, Massachusetts, that spreads across three nine-hole sections named Clyde, Squirrel, and Primrose. The fairways follow the natural terrain and wind through open grass areas and wooded sections with small, demanding greens.

The club was founded in 1882 as the first country club in the United States and became one of five founding members of the United States Golf Association. The course later hosted multiple major national championships, shaping the development of the sport across the nation.

The club gained fame in 1913 when an amateur player from the neighborhood defeated two world-class opponents from Britain, changing the sport in the United States forever. That victory drew thousands of spectators and made golf a popular sport beyond the upper class.

Members walk the Clyde and Squirrel sections while using caddies, preserving the traditional way of playing. Visitors should note that this is a private club and access is limited to members and their guests.

During major tournaments, selected holes from the Primrose section are incorporated into the main course to create a championship configuration. This change requires reshaping the playing order and produces a different layout each time.
