State Game Lands Number 49, Public hunting grounds in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, United States

State Game Lands Number 49 is a hunting area in Bedford and Fulton Counties spanning about 6,393 acres of mixed terrain with elevations ranging from 760 to 1,948 feet. The property consists of five separate parcels situated along Town Hill and Rays Hill, adjoining the northeastern boundary of Buchanan State Forest.

The area was officially registered in the Geographic Names Information System in 1979 as part of Pennsylvania's wildlife management system. This designation marked the formal recognition of the land as a managed hunting territory for conservation purposes.

Local hunters practice seasonal hunting traditions here, following established customs for deer, turkey, and small game across the managed areas.

Visitors need to obtain valid hunting licenses and wear high-visibility clothing during hunting seasons for safety. Access to the grounds is available through multiple entry points located near Interstate 70.

The land is divided into five separate parcels that are geographically distant from one another, creating an unusual patchwork of hunting areas. This fragmented layout resulted from how the state acquired the property over time for wildlife management.
