Simpson College, Private college in Indianola, Iowa, US
Simpson College is a private Methodist institution in Indianola located on an 85-acre campus that blends older buildings with contemporary educational spaces. The college serves more than 1,100 undergraduates and maintains facilities designed to support learning across different disciplines.
The institution began in 1860 as Indianola Male and Female Seminary and adopted its current name in 1885 to honor Methodist Bishop Matthew Simpson. This name change reflected its evolution from a classical seminary into a broader educational institution.
The John C. Culver Public Policy Center encourages students to engage in public service work and policy discussions that matter to their communities. This focus shapes how the college connects with local civic life and supports meaningful participation beyond the classroom.
The campus sits in a quiet area that is easy to reach by car or local transportation, making it convenient for students seeking a focused learning environment. Plan time to walk around the different areas of the campus, since buildings and facilities are spread across the grounds.
A high proportion of students participate in athletic activities, whether through one of 25 varsity teams or over 70 recreational sport offerings. This broad engagement in sports shapes the daily rhythm of campus life and builds strong group connections.
