Logan Elm, Historical tree memorial in Circleville, Ohio, United States
Logan Elm State Memorial marks the location of an American elm tree that stood here until 1964, with a crown spread of about 180 feet (55 m). The site features informational displays and monuments documenting the regional history and significance of this place.
The site gained significance when Chief Logan, a Mingo leader, delivered an influential speech about peace and revenge in 1774 during negotiations with Lord Dunmore. This historical meeting marked a pivotal moment in relations between Native Americans and European settlers in Ohio.
The grounds honor the encounter between Chief Logan and European settlers through monuments that recognize both communities. Visitors can trace the historical connections between these groups across the memorial landscape.
The memorial is located on State Route 361 and remains open to visitors daily without admission charges. Informational displays on-site help you understand the history and meaning of this location.
A new elm tree was planted in 2012 near the original location, preserving a living link to the site's past. This young tree reminds visitors that this place continues to grow and evolve today.
