Oak Avenue Local Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Hampton, Richmond upon Thames, England

Oak Avenue Local Nature Reserve is a nature reserve in Hampton featuring woodlands, hedgerows, seasonal ponds, and wildflower meadows. The landscape includes different habitat types that provide shelter and food for various plants and animals throughout the year.

The site was previously an industrial nursery cultivating tropical aquatic plants in greenhouses until the operation closed in the early 1990s. The local council then began restoring the neglected land into a natural habitat for wildlife.

The reserve serves as a gathering place for local volunteers and community groups who work together on conservation activities throughout the year. It demonstrates how a neighborhood can collectively maintain and care for natural spaces within an urban area.

Visitors can enter the reserve at multiple points including near Forge Lane School and along Oak Avenue itself. Public buses serve the area regularly, making it easy to reach without a car.

An old industrial chimney stands at the southern edge of the site, a remnant from its commercial past. This structure has become an unexpected landmark within the natural landscape, visible as visitors walk through the reserve.
