Small Heath School, Grade II* listed school building in Small Heath, Birmingham, England
Small Heath School is a Grade II* listed school building in Small Heath, Birmingham, occupying two sites on Muntz Street and Waverley Road. The structure displays traditional Victorian design with functional spaces built to support teaching and learning activities.
The school was founded in 1892 as a Birmingham Board School, designed by architects Martin & Chamberlain with distinctive structural features. Over time, the institution underwent changes including name changes and eventually conversion to academy status.
The school serves the educational needs of Birmingham's inner-city community, shaping how young people experience their neighborhood. Its role in Small Heath reflects the school's connection to local families and the area's development.
The main campus is now located on Muntz Street, where students relocated completely in 2017 to a consolidated facility. Visitors should be aware that this is an active school site and access may be limited during regular school hours.
The building was designed by the notable architectural firm Martin & Chamberlain, who created other important structures across Birmingham. This design connection links it to a broader legacy of school architecture from that era in the city.
