Akamon College of Sendai, Private junior college in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Japan

Akamon College of Sendai is a private junior college in the Aramaki Aoba district of Aoba-ku, Sendai, offering healthcare programs in acupuncture, moxibustion, and nursing. The campus is compact and organized around a small number of specialized training facilities suited to hands-on medical education.

The school was founded in 1947 as a training center for acupuncture and moxibustion, in the years following the end of World War II. It gained junior college status in 2017, which opened the way for it to expand into new healthcare disciplines.

The school teaches acupuncture and moxibustion alongside modern nursing, which makes it one of the few junior colleges in Japan where both traditions coexist on the same campus. Students can be seen moving between practice rooms equipped for traditional therapies and those set up for contemporary clinical training.

The campus is located in the Aramaki Aoba area of Sendai and can be reached from the city center without much difficulty. Visitors planning to attend an open day or look around should confirm access arrangements in advance through the college website.

The nursing department was only added in 2018, more than 70 years after the school first opened. This means that for most of its history, the school trained students exclusively in traditional Japanese therapeutic practices.
