Norn Minakami Ski Resort, Ski resort in Minakami, Japan

Norn Minakami Ski Resort is a ski resort in the Minakami area of Gunma Prefecture, with slopes for beginners, intermediate skiers, and experienced riders. The runs are spread across a forested mountain and offer different routes depending on skill level.

The Minakami area grew into a popular winter sports destination in Gunma Prefecture during the second half of the 20th century, as skiing gained popularity across Japan. The resort expanded its facilities over time to welcome more visitors coming from the greater Tokyo area.

Many visitors combine a day on the slopes with a visit to one of the nearby onsen, such as Sarugakyo Onsen. Soaking in hot spring water after skiing is a deeply rooted habit in this part of Gunma Prefecture.

The resort is close to the Minakami interchange and can be reached by car from Tokyo in roughly 100 minutes. Equipment rental and ski lessons are available on site, so there is no need to bring your own gear.

Despite being so close to Tokyo, the resort tends to be quieter on weekdays than many other ski areas in the region, making it a good choice for those who want to avoid weekend crowds. The nearby Hoshi Onsen is one of the oldest hot springs in Gunma and draws visitors who want to experience a more traditional side of the area.
