The college was founded in 1923, making it the oldest medical school in Andhra Pradesh. It was set up alongside King George Hospital, which gave students direct access to clinical training from the very beginning.

The college has become central to Visakhapatnam's identity as a hub for medical education and health training. You can observe students from many backgrounds sharing the campus, and the place reflects a strong focus on community health and caring for people.

The campus sits in a central part of Visakhapatnam and can be reached on foot or by local transport from most parts of the city. Access for outside visitors may be restricted, so it is worth checking before you go.

The college's first principal chose the motto 'Let there be nothing in Excess,' a phrase that shaped the spirit of the school from its early years. Former students later created alumni groups on several continents, including the AMC Association of North America.
