Experimental Centre of Cinematography, Sekolah film di Roma, Italia
The Experimental Centre of Cinematography is a film school on Via Tuscolana in the Cinecittà district with extensive teaching and production facilities. It offers programs in directing, acting, cinematography, and animation using professional equipment.
Luigi Freddi established the institution in 1935 during a revival of Italian cinema, making it the first film school in Western Europe. This founding marked a decisive moment for the development of film education across the continent.
The center houses a national film archive holding extensive Italian cinema and documentary collections that draw researchers and filmmakers. The collection reflects Italian cinema history and serves those studying or working in the field.
The school offers three-year programs taught in Italian and English that culminate in short film production with professional gear. Visitors should check ahead about tours, as access is normally limited to enrolled students and researchers.
The institution operates specialized branches in other Italian cities, including a department in Turin focused on animation filmmaking. This decentralized structure allows the school to foster different film genres and media forms.
